The Queen Vic is to be closed down after landlords Kat and Alfie Moon discover it is infested with fleas.

The 'EastEnders' boozer will shut while it is fumigated, but locals then stay away, according to reports, adding to the couple's money worries.

A source told The Sun that 'this is a huge blow for Kat and Alfie'.

“They’ve been struggling to make ends meet and lose thousands while the pub is shut. They have no idea who brought the fleas in and are determined to get to the bottom of it,” they added.

“Kat and Alfie’s relationship has been strained for months and this only adds to their problems.”

It follows news that Kat has cheated on Alfie with a mystery lover.

Channel 4 has been slammed over a stunt in which Winston Churchill's statue in Parliament Square was put in a straitjacket emblazoned with the word 'depression'. Churchill's grandson Nicholas Soames MP said: “Even by Channel 4’s pretty dismal standards, this is contemptible.” The stunt was to publicise its season on mental health. [The Sun]

Channel 4's 'Drugs Live' programme cannot go out live, the Home Office has ruled. “The scientific study requires all participants and researchers to be unaware if they’ve had the active drug or a placebo,” said a spokesperson for the show. “Therefore it needs to be recorded rather than live.” The experiment, which will feature Keith Allen, novelist Lionel Shriver, a former MP, an ex-SAS soldier and a female vicar, will be pre-recorded instead.
