Australia book place in Super Eights

Shane Watson smashed an unbeaten 41 from 24 deliveries to guide Australia to victory
Shane Watson smashed an unbeaten 41 from 24 deliveries to guide Australia to victory
Australia secured their place in the Super Eight stage of the World Twenty20 with a 17-run Duckworth-Lewis victory over West Indies after rain curtailed play in Colombo.
A heavy downpour interrupted the Australians' charge towards their 192 target when they were 100 for one - 17 runs ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis par score after 9.1 overs.
All-rounder Shane Watson - man of the match in Australia's opening Group B triumph over Ireland on Wednesday - was once again in full flow, unbeaten on 41 from 24 deliveries alongside Michael Hussey, who made 28 off 19, when the heavens opened.
The Windies earlier posted 191 for eight from their 20 overs after captain Darren Sammy won the toss and stuck with his team's preferred tactics in this format, opting to bat first - their total underpinned by half-centuries from Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels.
Opener Gayle smashed 54 off 33 balls - including five fours and four sixes - before a soft dismissal, caught and bowled by Watson, while Samuels plundered three fours and four sixes in reaching 50 off 32. He holed out to David Warner at long-on off the bowling of veteran spinner Brad Hogg.
Paceman Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Watson, who claimed 3-35 and 2-29 respectively, were the pick of the Australia bowlers, the former having been passed fit after recovering from gastroenteritis. Pat Cummins, Daniel Christian and Hogg also claimed a wicket apiece.
Australia suffered an early setback in their response when Warner - much to his displeasure - was given out caught behind by Denesh Ramdin off Fidel Edwards with the first ball of the third over, but not before the opener had racked up 28 from 14 balls.
However, they continued at a decent pace as Watson and Hussey set about reducing the 9.6 required run-rate which ultimately proved crucial.
The result left West Indies facing a winner-takes-all clash with Ireland on Monday to determine who will join Australia in the Super Eights.

Lauren Goodger arrives fashionably late to her own birthday

Last night the cast of TOWIE reunited to celebrate former cast member Lauren Goodger's 26th birthday.

However, it seems that the guests were left waiting for the birthday girl after she decided to turn up fashionably late to her own party.
Lauren kept her former cast mates waiting until 11pm before she showed, with Frankie Essex taking to Twitter to try and find out where she was.
Frankie posted: "We're here but where's the bday girl @LaurenGoodger ???"
Perhaps Lauren had been enjoying the luxury of her hotel suite for longer than she should have.
The birthday girl tweeted earlier on in the day: "At my hotel nice jacuzzi in the suite while I get ready with my girl n some champs..Also liking my ride tonight."
Frankie Essex, Lydia Bright, Tom and Kara Kilbey all showed up for the celebrations. [Copyright Wenn]
When she finally decided to turn up, Lauren, in true Essex fashion, arrived in style.
Pulling up in a white Bentley, Lauren stepped out in a Grecian inspired purple maxi dress paired with a black clutch and off-white stilettos.

But it seems that TOWIE star Cara Kilbey was less than impressed with the late arrival, posting her frustrations on Twitter.
She wrote: "Oh finally the diva @LaurenGoodger decides to turn up to her own party at 11. Thought she got the wrong venue."
Other members of the party included Chloe Sims, Georgina Dorset, Lydia Bright and boyfriend Tom Kilbey.

Kanye West ‘freaking out’ over sex tape

Kanye West is reported to be 'freaking out' after an alleged sex tape of the rapper has emerged online.
A sex tape of Kanye West has reportedly been leaked. [Copyright Wenn]

Radar Online reports that the twenty minute video is 'without a doubt' of the rapper.
A source told the site that Kanye is terrified that it will be released into the public domain.
We don't blame him.
The source said: "The sex tape is being shopped right now and there's a lot of interest, but Kanye is freaking out!"

"He doesn't want this tape out and will do anything to make sure it stays private. If this were to hit the market it would be worth a fortune… there would definitely be a lot of people wanting to see this!"
The woman in the sex tape was reportedly a 'dead ringer' for girlfriend Kim Kardashian. [Copyright Twitter]
The video reportedly sees the rapper engaging in some *ahem* extracurricular activities with a woman who is supposedly a dead ringer for current girlfriend Kim Kardashian.
According to Radar Online, the woman is a Kim Kardashian lookalike with long brown hair and a curvy figure.
Clearly Kanye has a type.
The tape itself was reportedly shot before the rapper and Kim Karsdashian officially got together in March.
Reality star Kim shot to fame in 2007 after her ex-boyfriend Ray-J leaked a similar tape of the couple.
Well if anyone knows how Kanye is feeling right now, it's Kim.

Helen Flanagan signs up for I’m a Celebrity

The Mail Online reports that the former Corrie star will be part of this year's celebrity line up when the show returns in November.
A source from ITV told the site that they think Helen will be great on the show.
They said: "Helen was one of our top picks, gorgeous, funny and she will be a real hit with viewers."
Although her signing hasn't officially been confirmed yet, a spokesperson from the show failed to deny the actresses participation, simply saying that the line up would be revealed soon.

If the rumors are true however, it will give Helen the chance to flash some flesh on our TV screens rather than on her Twitter page.
Since leaving Corrie Helen has posted revealing images of herself on Twitter. [Copyright Twitter]
Since leaving 'Coronation Street', the actress has struggled to get any other acting work outside of the soap.
In the meantime, Helen has been taking to Twitter to post increasingly raunchy pictures of herself.
Just this week, the actress posted a set of pictures titled 'Deranged Barbie', wearing some very revealing lingerie.
Model and former 'Celebrity Big Brother' star Georgia Salpa was recently rumored to also be taking part in the series.
Let the battle of the bikini bodies commence!

Beyoncé plays host to Obama in gorgeous red dress

It's difficult deciding what to wear at the best of times, let alone when you're playing host at a fundraising event for the re-election of Barack Obama. Now that ladies, is pressure!
But we think that Beyoncé chose perfectly, don't you?
This demure-yet-striking red Oscar De La Renta number was the perfect dress for the occasion, and Beyoncé looked stunning with her curly hair parted to the side.
See who else has been out supporting Obama

Barack tweeted this picture of the trio enjoying each other's company, saying:
@BarackObama: PHOTO: A couple supporters in a New York state of mind last night.
And seeing as each guest paid $40,000 to be there, we'd imagine they'd expect nothing less than a glamorous gown from the pop star. I'm sure they weren't disappointed

Anne Hathaway and Sarah Jessica Parker wear ridiculously long trains, but who wore it best?

Anne Hathaway and Sarah Jessica Parker both wore some gorgeous gowns to the NY Ballet last night: but the question is: who wore their flowy gown the best?
We hope they managed to rope in a train holder! Copyright: [wenn]

Sarah and Anne were rocking their floor length creations at the Annual New York City Ballet's grand gala.
But for a minute there we thought we were back at the Royal wedding, would you check out the length of those trains?

Only a celeb could get away with gowns like these, we love them both but just where could us mere mortals get away with either?
We reckon we would get some dodgy looks if we rocked up to Nandos in either or, and plus the train would probably just get stuck in the doors on the Tube.
These aren't dresses, they are challenged on Britain's Next Top Model. Copyright: [wenn]
We have to say that if these are headed to the high street then we are in trouble, we can't afford a train holder and these almost definitely will equate to a broken neck.
They look like something off of a challenge on Britain's Next Top Model aka designed to trip you up, literally.
Still potential broken bones aside and back to the question in hand: who wore their ridic train the best, Anne or Sarah?

Harry Styles tries his luck with Natalie Imbruglia at James Corden’s wedding

Harry Styles' is reported to have chatted up Natalie Imbruglia at their mutual pal, James Corden's wedding.
Harry is believed to have said Natalie is 'amazing'. Copyright: [wenn]

Yep, Harry is believed to have worked his charms on 37 year old Natalie, and the pair were seen chatting and giggling throughout the night.
Incredibly, the pair are reported to have left at the same time and then turned up for the breakfast buffet the next day together.
*raises eyebrow*
Just how does Harry do it? Actually, we think it's pretty safe to say it's the hair: those curls really do know no bounds (or age limits).
Well, they do say the best place to pull is at a wedding and we wonder if Natalie caught the bouquet?
Natalie is twice Harry's age, so just his type. Copyright: [wenn]
When a reporter asked Natalie about her alleged evening with the One Direction star, she said: "Why are you asking me? Go ask him!"
However, when anyone tried, his people declined to comment.
Finally, One Direction just happened to perform a cover of Natalie's biggest hit, Torn at their iTunes Festival performance last night.
Coincidence or not, we certainly will be adding that to our portfolio of evidence…
We really are starting to lose count of the number of ladies that we have to photoshop hearts onto when it comes to Harry.

Just this week alone we have seen him give Pixie Geldof a lift in his Range Rover aka love mobile.
Then he went straight to watch Cara Delevigne in her fashion show and now he's wining and dining Natalie Imbruglia!
However, unlike Cara and Pixie, Natalie is actually twice his age, so just Harry's type then.
Harry has a famous history with cougars after famously dating Caroline Flack, admitting to fancying Carol Voderman and lest we forget his fling with married radio DJ Lucy Horobin.

TOWIE’s Lucy Mecklenburgh wears lingerie to the Lingerie Awards

Lucy Mecklenburgh looks like she might have read her invite to the Lingerie Awards a little too literally last night.
OK, that's almost defintely not a dress. Copyright: [wenn]

The TOWIE star posed on the red carpet in what definitely looks like nothing more than underwear, albeit lovely underwear.
Well, to be fair, what else would you wear to the Lingerie Awards?! And while we are on the subject, just what are the categories?
'And now the award for this year's best knickers goes to…'
*giggles*
Back to Lucy's outfit, we swear we have something similar for when we want to be all sucked in underneath our LBD!

Maybe Lucy is making an ironic fashion statement?
We really hope she is.
However, we would almost definitely give Lucy one of omg!'s Lingerie Award (when we get round to having them), because she is rocking that corset like no one else!
Meanwhile, although fellow Lingerie supporter Sarah Harding chose to pose with a snake on the red carpet, Lucy settled for her man Mario Falcolne who was looking super sharp in his suit:
We think Mario should have worn his underwear seeing as Lucy wore hers. Copyright: [wenn]
However, we think as it was the annual Lingerie Awards Mario could have at least whipped off the suit and showed us his under crackers!
Still, maybe he is saving that for the Men's Pants Awards which almost definitely exist.

KFC customer jailed for restaurant rampage after staff refused to serve him bargain bucket

An irate customer who rammed his car into a KFC restaurant before trying to ‘kebab’ staff with a 20ft metal pole because they refused to sell him a bargain bucket has been jailed.

Crazed Hugh Brown, 50, flipped after staff refused to serve him a £10.99 meal deal because they had closed 20 minutes earlier.

Police released shocking CCTV images of the moment Brown burst into the takeaway in Corby, Northamptonshire, at 11.20pm on March 22 this year and demanded food.

Moments earlier Brown had accelerated his car into the front window of the restaurant before running towards the counter wielding a huge metal pole he ripped from the frame.

Three terrified staff can be seen cowering in the kitchen as Hugh laughs hysterically before hurling the pole at them “like a javelin” before fleeing.

Shockingly, he is then seen driving away and ramming a parked vehicle before smashing into a police patrol car.

Four police cars were called before he was finally arrested where Brown told cops: “I only did it because they wouldn’t give me a bargain bucket.”

Brown pleaded guilty to affray, damaging property, dangerous driving and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent when he appeared at Northampton Crown Court yesterday.

Jailing him for seven years, Judge Lynn Tayton QC, told Brown: “Throughout this incident, you were described as laughing and in a strange state.

“You used a car as a weapon and intended to cause more harm that actually resulted, This matter is aggravated because it was an offence committed against a police officer in a car.

“You are very lucky nobody was very seriously injured.”

Brown, from Corby, was also banned from driving until September 2018.Hugh Brown has been jailed (Picture: SWNS)

Brown flew into a rage after he pulled up at the front window of KFC to be told the restaurant had closed.

The court heard how he drove off but was spotted by off-duty Pc John Cummins who thought a ram-raid was in progress, called 999 and decided to follow him.

Adrian Harris, prosecuting, said the branch closed at 11pm and four members of staff were cleaning up when Brown arrived at the drive-through at 11.20pm.

He said: “With the lights off, it was obviously shut. The defendant got out of the car and walked up to the window.

“He was very angry. He wanted to eat and his anger was apparently because they were closed.

“He appeared to drive off, but the defendant did not drive away.

“He drove straight at the large window at the front and drove through the window in the style of a ram-raid.

“The only things that stopped him driving fully inside were the tables, bolted to the floor. The defendant revved again and got out of his car.

“He grabbed a piece of the window frame, climbed through the smashed window, walked up to the counter and threatened a member of staff, who said he wanted to fight outside.

"The defendant damaged a TV monitor using the pole, then threw it across the counter towards the four staff like a javelin. He said ‘I’ll be back in five minutes with a group’.

“The defendant drove straight into Pc Cummin’s car, then reversed away and drove into it again.

"Pc Cummins had retreated to about 12 feet away to a nearby alleyway. The defendant then smashed twice more into his car.”

Moments later a marked police car carrying Pc Ruth Hay and Pc Neil Ochalek arrived and saw Brown in his car.

Mr Harris said: “Pc Hay stopped about five metres away from him, he looked at them and laughed.

"The defendant drove at them and shunted them backwards.

“Pc Hay was terrified and thought at the time he was trying to kill her.

“She pressed her emergency button as the defendant was looking at her and laughing. He laughed throughout and to her, he looked ‘psychotic and deranged’.”

Mr Harris said when the airbag in the police car deployed, Pc Hay was trapped inside while Brown twice more rammed the vehicle.

After the fourth collision, she was able to open the door and ran off, but Brown again drove into the police car.

Brown fled on foot but officers found him hiding on a garage roof nearby. But he refused to give up and told cops: “I’ve got Hep [hepatitis] C, I’ll spit on you.”

Maxine Krone, defending, said Brown was taking 13 types of medication at the time for an anxiety disorder.

She said: “When faced with the option of fight or flight, he had decided to fight.”

The cheapest way to get the iPhone 5

After all the anticipation it's finally here so how can you get your hands on the iPhone 5 and how much will it cost?

The iPhone 5 is here.
Most of the leading providers have now released details of the tariffs on offer. There are several to choose from of varying prices and allowance ratios of minutes, texts and data.
Mobile phone contracts are notoriously hard to figure out and this is no different for the new iPhone. How you pay for the phone is up to you and depends on your own circumstances. If you’re just coming to the end of another contract, you could always trade in your old phone for cash to use towards a new model.
Alternatively, locking yourself into a contract will mean you escape any upfront costs, but is this always the best option and how can you pick a deal that’s right for your needs?

The iPhone 5

It’s the thinnest, lightest iPhone yet and has a host of extra functions including a four-inch display, ultra-fast wireless connection and a panoramic camera.
If you buy a new unlocked phone directly from Apple it’ll set you back £529 for a 16GB version. This shoots up to £599 for the 32GB and £699 for the 64GB.
Another cost to factor in is a £25 adapter which you’ll need to buy if you want to use the new phone with older generation docks and accessories.

SIM-only deals

Buying an unlocked phone which isn’t tied into a contract gives you the freedom to choose how you’re going to pay for it each month.
SIM-only deals mean you’ll pay a monthly sum, but you can usually terminate the contract after 30 days so if you think you’re paying too much, or you want to change contracts, you’re free to do so.
The problem with the new iPhone is that it uses a ‘nano-SIM card' which is smaller than those used for previous models. As a result fewer providers are offering SIM-only deals at the moment. One of the leading providers, Giffgaff, for example has said it’s not ready to start rolling out these deals for the new phone.
There are some options though as 3 has a nano-SIM-only card which starts at £6.90 a month. This is its Essential Internet 200 deal which includes, 200 minutes, 5,000 texts and 500MB of data – although you do have to continue with this deal for 12 months.
The Ultimate Internet 200 tariff, for £12.90 a month, again includes 200 minutes and 5,000 texts but also comes with all-you-can-eat data. This is essentially a 30-day contract and if you were to choose this deal with the new iPhone it would cost you £829 over two years or £679 for the first year.
The one problem with this option is you need to cash upfront to buy the new phone, but if you traded in an old iPhone 4S you could make up to £300. With an iPhone 4 this falls to £172 and even an iPhone 3S will bag you around £90 on Sellmymobile.com. This cuts a healthy chunk off the price making it even cheaper.

Everything Everywhere and 4G

Along with all the new gadgets included in the phone is the ability to use superfast 4G internet. This is predicted to be five times faster than the 3G service.
However, it’s not as easy as it sounds and only phones which are connected to the EE network can use the 4G network.
As the new 4G network isn’t yet up and running, the only option for people who want to do this is signing up to either a T-Mobile or Orange contract and then upgrading when the 4G network is live.
The problem here is you’ll need to start a new contract with EE when it goes live which is supposed to be in the next few months. No details are available at the moment, but these are expected to be a lot more expensive than the current tariffs on offer.

Pay monthly offers

For those people who aren’t in a position to buy a phone outright, a monthly contract will be a better option. This way the phone costs are absorbed into the amount you pay each month over the period of the contract.
Currently the majority of contracts run for 24-months with the new phone, but there are some shorter tariffs available. Vodafone is offering a 12-month deal, starting at £51 a month with an upfront cost of £169 which includes 1,200 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data.
Tesco Mobile has two 12-month deals starting at £30 a month with a hefty £400 upfront fee which includes 500 minutes, 5,000 texts and 1GB of data. This works out at £760 in the first year which still leaves you paying £81 more than if you were to choose the SIM-only option with 3 which detailed above. And you'll get a lower data allowance!
Here I’ve listed the 24-month contracts available from the leading providers.

O2 (On&On)

When looking at price alone, O2 offers the cheapest two-year contract at £873.99 for the period. As it has unlimited texts and calls and 1GB of data this is a competitive deal.
The major drawback to the deal is the upfront cost of £249.99 which will price many people out of choosing the tariff. In fact you’ll have to sign up to a £46 a month deal in order to get the phone free, which means you're paying out £1,104 for the two years.
This means you’ll pay more than £200 extra, compared to the cheapest deal, and you’ll still get exactly the same allowance of data, texts and calls.

T-Mobile (The Full Monty Plan)

What sets T-Mobile apart from the other tariffs on offer is the internet allowance. All tariffs offer unlimited data - the only other provider to offer this is 3. However, this comes at a cost and the tariffs are some of the most expensive.

Vodafone

Although Vodafone has one of the cheapest starting costs at £33 a month, this only includes 500MB of data and 600 calls. You’ll also have to pay out £149 to get the deal and to get a phone with no upfront costs you’ll need to sign up to a £47-per month deal.

3

Although 3 is a smaller player in the smartphone market, it continually seems to offer the best deals. Along with T-Mobile it offers unlimited data but it is slightly cheaper and includes more calls to other 3 customers.
The upfront costs are also cheaper which will make this deal more attractive to people who don’t have access to this cash.

Orange

The deals available from Orange so far are the most expensive and are pretty similar to those coming out from T-Mobile. As these two will soon join forces to become EE the fact the tariffs are so similar makes sense.
However, despite the price, T-Mobile offers a higher internet allowance so for customers after more data it would be a better choice.

Tesco

As one of the few providers offering both 12 and 24-month contracts, Tesco will be an appealing option to those who don't want to get locked into a two-year deal and the 24-month plans on offer are attractive.
After O2, Tesco has the cheapest two-year deal at just £25 a month and although it offers slightly less in minutes, texts and data it still provides a standard allowance which should suit most iPhone users.
The one problem with the Tesco deals is that no date has officially been given for when these will be available. It says it all depends on demand and given that the phone is likely to be snapped up instantly on Friday, you might have to wait a few weeks if you plan to go via Tesco.

Sky ruled fit for broadcast licence

Sky is "fit and proper" to hold a broadcasting licence but its former chairman James Murdoch was spared no criticism after the media regulator slammed his handling of the phone hacking scandal.
While Ofcom said there was no evidence that Mr Murdoch knew of wrongdoing at the News of the World or that he was complicit in a cover-up, it hit out at his failure to uncover the problems earlier.
It said: "We consider James Murdoch's conduct, including his failure to initiate action on his own account on a number of occasions, to be both difficult to comprehend and ill-judged."
Media regulator Ofcom carried out a review of Sky after James Murdoch and News Corporation, which owns 39% of its shares, were engulfed in the phone hacking scandal which led to the closure of News Corp's News of the World. Ofcom found no evidence that Sky was directly or indirectly involved in any of the wrongdoing either admitted or alleged.

Mr Murdoch - son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who controls News Corp - has since resigned as chairman at Sky in a bid to distance the broadcaster from the scandal, claiming he had become a "lightning rod" for bad publicity. He remains a non-executive director of BSkyB and an executive director at News Corp.

Ofcom ruled Sky is 'fit and proper' to hold on to its broadcasting licence
Mr Murdoch apologised for his conduct in a letter to the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee in March, when he said he should have "asked more questions, requested more documents and taken a more challenging and sceptical view of what I was told".
He had no involvement with News International until the end of 2007, which was almost a year after the sentencing of the News of the World's royal editor Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire for phone hacking. But after he took over as chief executive, he received an email suggesting that criminal activities were more widespread, although he claimed he failed to read the correspondence fully.
Ofcom added: "We consider that the events set out above raise questions regarding James Murdoch's competence in the handling of these matters and his attitude towards the possibility of wrongdoing in the companies for which he was responsible."
Ofcom's ruling lifts a cloud from Sky, which welcomed the decision and said the regulator was right to conclude that it was a fit and proper broadcaster. It said in a statement: "As a company, we are committed to high standards of governance and we take our regulatory obligations extremely seriously. As Ofcom acknowledges, our track record of compliance in broadcasting is good."
Labour MP Tom Watson told BBC Radio 4's Today programme he was "disappointed" by the finding. Asked if it was a finding he accepted, the MP for West Bromwich East said: "Yes, of course. I am disappointed by it obviously, but not surprised, but I do think it shows the flaws in Ofcom's methodology, they can't do deep investigations in the way that other organisations can and they also do hedge their bets."

Timeline of future technology

Space Elevator (© Bruce Irving)
The Space Elevator could be a revolutionary means of transport beyond the earth's atmosphere
Technology is a constant catalyst for change as we humans are encouraged to embrace new medical advancements, transportation methods, means of communication, etc. Take the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone as a prime example of how technology is becoming even more intuitive - moulding to the new demands we face every day, and taking inspiration from our surroundings - nature.
Predicting the future of technology is always a fun thing to consider - especially when you realise what might inspire these advancements to take place. Here's how we think technology might change our lives...
2017
Five years from now medical lasers that can seal wounds could be commonplace on battlefields and in hospitals. The technique, known (slightly ominously) as "laser welding", has been pioneered by a team of Tel Aviv University researchers, and could even be used by surgeons when operating inside the body. Flexible LCD screens that can be rolled up like a newspaper will also be widely available, and home 3D printing will be giving copyright holders a headache. Thought-controlled prosthetic limbs will revolutionise life for amputees.
2022
By the beginning of the third decade of this century Nanotech clothing will have reached the shop shelves. These garments will be stain and water resistant, able to change colour to suit their wearer's whims, and protect the emergency services from toxic chemicals. A crash-proof car, which can alert drivers to potential danger and even take over the controls, should also be ready to roll off the production line. In fact, Volvo has pledged that beyond the year 2020 no one will be killed or seriously injured in one of its new cars.
Learn how the technology in Samsung's Galaxy S III was designed with you in mind
2027
New treatments for Alzheimer's will be available by 2027. The disease currently affects more than 27 million people around the world, and the number of sufferers is expected to quadruple by 2050. Innovative gene therapies developed over the next decade should point the way toward a cure, sparing a generation of people from the indignities of this cruel disease. By this point in time it should also be possible to successfully revive a mouse from cryopreservation. Trials of medical nanobots will also be well underway.
The EN-V (© General Motors, Segway)
The EN-V is a concept vehicle featuring dynamic stabilisation technology
2032
The majority of vehicles on the road are now electric. People will increasingly use smaller cars too, such as the EN-V concept vehicle. The EN-V features dynamic stabilisation technology, allowing it to carry two passengers and a light cargo despite being around a third the size of a traditional vehicle. Stem cell "pharmacies" that can issue treatment for damaged body parts or organs on the high-street could also be a common sight in two decades. Home internet speeds will have rocketed to more than a terabit per second.
2037
Today's PCs and tablet devices will seem about as powerful as a pocket calculator by 2037, thanks to the advent of quantum computing. The technology is still in its infancy today. But the speed of progress means it could form a part of everyday life as we move toward the middle of the century, unleashing a new wave of human creativity and ingenuity. The teleportation of complex organic molecules should also be possible by this point, paving the way for a real-life Star Trek-style transporter.

2042
Claytronic atoms - effectively nano-scale computers - will allow people to create 3D objects at will. The idea, known as Claytronics, involves manipulating the claytronic atoms using specialist software, forming and reforming them into a limitless number of items. In communications, this will allow people to see, hear and touch each other over long distances, just as if they were in the room together. Cars made from claytronic atoms could also be endlessly reformed into different vehicles.

We predict by 2047 androids will begin to take up roles in homes and workplaces
2047
We are now approaching the point of singularity, when a greater-than-human super intelligence emerges through technological means. Transhumanism will also become a mainstream concept as more and more people augment their bodies with technology. Intelligent military aircraft that can operate independently of a human being will become a reality, and thanks to the emergence of true artificial intelligence, androids will begin to take up roles in homes and workplaces.
Find out what inspired the Samsung to create its most intuitive smartphone yet - the Galaxy S III
2052
The sheer range and pace of technological change means the world of 2052 is hard to comprehend. Genetically engineered babies are now commonplace, as the elite seek to give their children every advantage possible - including super-intelligence and heightened physical prowess. Human beings have also begun to link their minds directly to the internet in order to make sense of all the information now available online. Nanobots will be able to augment people's vision to produce totally immersive virtual worlds.
2057
The home computers of 2057 will have more processing power than all the human minds that have ever existed, and thus many high-level political decisions will be handled by artificial intelligences. Handheld MRI scanners mean people can be scanned quickly and cheaply, greatly improving diagnosis and treatment for a variety of diseases. Internal organs and brain activity can be seen in real-time using these devices, which will also revolutionise medical treatment in the developing world.
2062
Ageing is a curable disease by this point in time, with a variety of gene and nanotechnology therapies effectively halting, and eventually reversing, the ageing process. At first the treatment is likely to be expensive, but competition between pharmaceutical companies should bring it within reach of most people in the developed world by the end of the century. Invisibility suits are now a common piece of military kit, along with force field technology. The world's first space elevator allows for the rapid transport of people and equipment beyond earth's atmosphere.

Servicewoman has Camp Bastion baby

A British servicewoman has given birth while serving in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence said the woman - who is understood to have been unaware of her pregnancy - had a son at Camp Bastion on Tuesday.
Both mother and baby are in a stable condition and are due to be flown home in the coming days after a specialist medical team from the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford arrives in the Helmand Province base.

An MoD spokesman said: "We can confirm that on September 18 a UK servicewoman serving in Afghanistan gave birth in the Camp Bastion Field Hospital to a baby boy.
"Mother and baby are both in a stable condition in the hospital and are receiving the best possible care. A specialist Paediatric Retrieval Team is being prepared and will deploy in the next few days in order to provide appropriate care for mother and baby on the flight home."
The spokesman added: "It is not military policy to allow service women to deploy on operations if they are pregnant. In this instance the MoD was unaware of her pregnancy. As with all medical cases, when the need arises, individuals are returned to the UK for appropriate treatment/care."
According to the Daily Mail, the woman served as a gunner with the Royal Artillery, and had been deployed with the 17th Mechanised Brigade since March. The newspaper said she only discovered she was pregnant after she went to medics complaining of stomach pains, and the baby was born five weeks premature.

A military expert called for more rigorous checks on women going to frontline duties to ensure they are not pregnant because of the risks to their welfare.
Major Charles Heyman, an author of books about the British Army and a former soldier, said he understood a simple urine test could have revealed the woman's condition.
"The Army needs to make sure for the welfare of the female soldier concerned that they are not pregnant before they deploy. I'm not an expert on pregnancy but I'm told that is to easy to tell that a woman is pregnant with a visit to a doctors' surgery and a urine test and that should perhaps be looked at before women go out on operations."

Congratulations!
The couple has named their newborn Theodora Rose after she was delivered this afternoon at London's Portland Hospital.
Robbie took to Twitter with a link to his blog, announcing the news of the baby's birth earlier this evening.
He posted: "Praise be, it's Theodora Rose Williams, affectionately known as Teddy..... Born 3.33pm on 18.9.12, 7Ibs 4OZ"
"Baby, Mummy and Daddy are all rockin.... Thank you for your best wishes XXXX."

The Sun reports that Ayda went into labor last night, with a source revealing to the paper that Rob was present throughout the birth.
They said: "Robbie was at Ayda's side throughout — she did so well."
"They are spending their first night together as a happy family."

The couple, who have been married for two years, announced the pregnancy in March.
However, Theodora arrived eight days earlier than the couple had anticipated with the two previously announcing that she was due September 26.
Robbie Williams is currently embarking on his solo career comeback, with new single 'Candy' due to be released on October 29.
Until then, we're sure Rob will be more than happy to swap his new material for nursery rhymes.

Kate Middleton and Prince William take style inspiration from Lady Gaga

ate Middleton and Prince William seem to have taken style inspiration from Lady Gaga on their tour of the Solomon Islands.
One does like a bit of Lady Gaga, one must admit. Copyright: [rex]

Yes, the islands are the next stop off of Prince Williams and Kate's Royal tour.
While Kate and Wills opted for more demure flower garland headdresses, we can't help but think they might have taken some inspiration from Lady Gaga at London Fashion Week.
Well, Kate and Lady G both are style icons so it's hardly surprising if they have been swapping fashion tips, we like to think they are mates and chat all the time.
One has the moves like Jagger. Copyright: [rex]
Also because we just love the idea of Prince William being a huge Lady Gaga fan and dad dancing round Buckingham Palace to Poker Face.
However, in all seriousness, the couple were wearing the headdresses as part of their stop off in the Solomon Islands where they were invited to join local tribes for a bit of a knees up.

Prince William did some excellent dancing at this point and Kate smiled as she did her best hula, and we think you might just be able to guess who is the best mover out of the pair!
Kate also joined in with a song-and-dance routine of 'Head, Feet and Toes' when the couple visited a school in the local area, showing that that is one smash hit that most definitely has gone global.
Meanwhile, William also tried out a local sport, which looked basically like a fast version of volleyball - and also chopped open a coconut with a machete!

Spain, Ireland to investigate Ryanair flight diversion

DUBLIN (Reuters) - Irish and Spanish aviation authorities on Tuesday agreed to jointly investigate the diversion to Madrid of a Ryanair flight from Paris to Tenerife following a technical issue.
The decision came at a meeting of air safety experts in Dublin which followed a series of comments by Spanish authorities about incidents in Spanish airspace involving Europe's largest budget airline.
Spanish authorities are investigating emergency landings by three Ryanair planes in Valencia on July 26 after they approached their minimum required fuel.

Ryanair has said the July landings were forced by bad weather and that it complies fully with EU safety procedures.
Ryanair aircraft are pictured at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland

Spanish authorities are also looking into an incident in which a Ryanair flight diverted and landed at Barcelona's El Prat airport after a possible engine fault was detected.
The investigation announced on Tuesday follows a diversion on Sunday. Ryanair said in a statement the flight from Paris to Tenerife was diverted to Madrid.

Ryanair has accused the Spanish aviation authorities of falsifying information on incidents involving its planes, an accusation Spanish officials have rejected.

"The Irish authorities gave an assurance of the Irish Aviation Authority's rigorous oversight of Ryanair's operations and on their satisfaction with Ryanair's safety standards which are on a par with the safest airlines in Europe," the Irish department of transport said in a statement after the meeting.
Ryanair, which last year carried over 30 million passengers in Spain, is the country's largest passenger carrier.

Spain's Public Works minister Ana Pastor, whose ministry runs aviation safety, has called for tighter safety regimes at low-cost airlines following a series of media reports about emergency incidents.
Ryanair has rejected claims by the Irish pilots' union (IALPA) that it pressures flight crew to carry the minimum amount of fuel required under European regulations.

How to get hair like Kate's

Mark Large The Daily Mail PA Wire Press Association Images
Kate has been seen out and about with enviably sleek and shiny hair despite the Asian humidity. How is she doing it?
One of the most popular (though more expensive) ways of taming your tresses is to have a Brazilian Blowdry.
The Brazilian Blowout is one of the most innovative and effective professional smoothing treatments available. Designed to actually improve the condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft, this treatment is designed to eliminate frizz and smooth the cuticle.

The end result is smooth, healthy, frizz-freehair with radiant shine with no damage because no harsh chemicals have been used. The treatment takes around 90 minutes and results can last up to 12 weeks.
Find out more at brazilianblowoutltd.co.uk.
However, you don't need to spend a fortune on Brazilian blowdrys or expensive treatments to tame your trestles, a heat protective spray works wonders for keeping your hair nicely moisturised and will prevent unsightly frizzing.
Celebrity hair stylist Andrew Barton says: "After having a bouncy blow dry, use a protection spray, such as My Straight Answer Hot Iron Protection Spray, which will help stop any frizz caused by damp climates. (It also has a gorgeous holiday fragrance so your hair will smell lovely too.)"
Get Kate's look:
Kate's signature bouncy blowdry is currently one of the most asked for hairstyles at the Andrew's Covent Garden Salon.
Andrew says: "Kate's has recently had a bit more than her usual trim and had a few extra inches cut off her envied mane.

"Getting the look is easy with the right tolls and products and here's a mini step by step lesson on how to get the look."
1. Start with clean, conditioned hair (if you lust after Kate's gloss try our Gloss Boss collection of shampoo, conditioner and treatment mask which nourishes the hair and adds great shine).

2. Turn your head upside down and blast your hair with a hairdryer to get some root lift, dry until it's roughly 50 per cent dry.

3. Now add a volumising (I recommend our I Love Volume Big Hair Lifting Juice for this). Spray the liquid gel through the hair. The product will give body and volume as well as long lasting hold and protection.

4. With the head in an upright position make a circular section on top of the head and secure the section with a clip. This will separate the hair into two key areas, the underneath which will blow-dried first and the top which will be blow-dried last.

5. Take a horizontal section, approximately two to three inches wide and start to blow-dry the hair using a round brush. The conical shape of the brush will help achieve more root lift and volume.

6. Once the section of hair is completely dry, curl it around the fingers and pin close to the head while it cools, this is the salon secret to a longer lasting Kate style blow-dry.

7. Repeat the same on all of the sections underneath and then do the same on the top keeping each section pinned to the head.

8. Finally, once all the hair as cooled gently take out the pins and brush the hair and spritz with a hair spray.

Alternatively, the hair can be dried smooth and heated rollers put into the hair to create a similar effect.

Kate's signature half up half down look has been copied time and time again since her wedding day.

The style is easily created but starts off with a good blow-dry as described in the steps above.

Use the hands to draw a sweeping section from the front hair line, parting the hair at aline just above the ears and lift the hair up to the crown.

Secure with hair grips at the crown of the head and allow the curls to tumble down underneath.

Ronaldo's late strike sinks City

Manchester City's Manager Roberto Mancini stands dejected towards the end of the game against Real Madrid
Manchester City's Manager Roberto Mancini stands dejected towards the end of the game against Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo struck late as Real Madrid sank Manchester City 3-2 in an enthralling Champions League Group D opener at the Bernabeu Stadium.
The former Manchester United star beat the brilliant Joe Hart to cap a rousing late fightback just minutes after Karim Benzema had equalised.
Hart, who kept City in the match with a number of outstanding saves, told ITV: "You can't go 2-1 up with five minutes to go and lose the game. Who else can we blame? We can only blame ourselves. We dug deep, got a lead twice and we lost it, so we can only blame ourselves."
Aleksandar Kolarov had put City in sight of a famous victory six minutes from time but after a frantic finish that saw all five goals scored in the final 22 minutes, Real had the final say.
Edin Dzeko first put City ahead against the run of play after 68 minutes but Marcelo produced a quick reply.
Yet while Hart was merely being honest as he was interviewed moments after leaving the field, manager Roberto Mancini felt he should keep such comments to himself.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Mancini said: "Joe Hart should stay as goalie and finish. If anyone should criticise the team, I should criticise the team, not Joe Hart."
He added: "It is difficult not because we lost - we can lose against a side like Real Madrid - but because with four minutes to go it was 2-1.
"In the first half they played better than us but in the second half we played well and scored two goals. When you score two goals here and are 2-1 you should pay more attention."
Captain Vincent Kompany might have been able to block Ronaldo's winning shot but ducked at an inopportune moment. Mancini said: "I saw the goal but I don't know (about this). The mistake was we went too deep, only this."

The belle of the FROW at Marios Schwab’s spring/summer 2013 ready-to-wear show, DJ and model, Leigh Lezark matched her glossy dark locks with a chic LBD and black platform heels.
Leigh Lezark
The tiny-framed Leigh Lezark was all smiles as she posed for a FROW photo before dashing off for a quick outfit change before heading to the Topshop Show Space. Appearing significantly dressed down at the Topshop UNIQUE show, Leigh Lezark looked comfortably stylish in a casual skinny jeans and pink animal print knit get-up complete with cute shocking pink quilted bag.
Also making a statement on the Marios Schwab FROW was American cult fashion curator and influential journalist/blogger, Diane Pernet. Wearing her signature black veil and dark sunglasses, we caught Diane mid snack as she munched on a bag of Salt ‘n’ Vinegar popcorn as she waited for the show to start.

Tipped as one of the must-see shows at London Fashion Week, Topshop UNIQUE as always drew in a large celebrity crowd. Mirroring the colourful catwalks, socialite, model and actress, Olivia Palermo appeared as bright as a summer’s day in sunshine yellow and tan panelled top and cardi combo and blue paisley print cropped cigarette trousers as she left the Topshop UNIQUE show.

Girls Aloud singer, Nicola Roberts, never one to miss London Fashion Week, joined the FROW too. The fashion enthusiast matched her strawberry blond locks with a black soft velvet pocket jumpsuit and open toe sandals.
Always in a hurry, renowned fashion blogger, Susanna Lau aka Susie Bubble looked uber cool as ever at the Topshop UNIQUE show in clashing prints, sporting a fruit print shirt and red and white checked jumper on top.

While waiting for her car to arrive Cara Delevinge played up to the cameras outside the Topshop Show Space venue in Bedford Square. Appearing in post-show dressed down mode again, the fashion world’s new favourite model sported a striped t-shirt, dark skinny jeans, a bright blue preppy jacket and baseball cap. Nicola Roberts, Delilah and Anna Friel

Dakota Fanning’s younger sister, Elle Fanning also made an unexpected appearance. Beaming for the cameras the young actress looked cute in a navy girlie pinafore frock complete with light blue under shirt and matching ribbon in her ponytail.

Model Daisy Lowe too joined the fashion pack on the FROW at Topshop UNIQUE. Rocking a red cross-stitch oversized knitted jumper, hot pants and black knee-high boots, Daisy was in her element as she posed for the cameras.

Over at the Grand Connaught Rooms Hotel a fashionable A-list crowd gathered to watch the Temperley show. Amongst those in attendance was British actress, Anna Friel who looked stunning in a bright blue satin print dress and matching turquoise heeled courts. Joining the FROW Anna sat next to the beautiful, Poppy Delevingne. Radiating in an of course, Temperley embroidered blouse, top model, Poppy appeared serene and gorgeous as ever as she waited for the Temperley show to start. Also on the FROW was model friend, Jasmine Guinness who looked equally stunning in what also appeared, if we’re not mistaken to be a Temperley number.

In addition to the model and actress line up on the Temperley FROW, Singer Delilah was spotted too, looking virginal in an all white crisp shirt dress. Completing her look the blond curly haired singer contrasted her all white affair with stylish black platform Mary-Janes.

Pink takes daughter out in sunny New York

Pink might have been worried about having a baby and becoming a mother but she needn't have worried: these pictures of her spending the day with her one-year-old daughter and husband show she couldn't be more of a natural!

Pink and Willow Sage: aww!
The new mum (who certainly hasn't lost her fashion sense and unique style!) and her husband Carey Hart spent the day with their baby daughter in sunny New York and they couldn't have looked like a happier family unit if they tried.
We can't help but pretend we're not jealous of a few things: a) that they're enjoying much nicer autumn weather than we are and b) that Willow isn't our daughter!
Pink was spottef playing around with her 15-month-old daughter as well as letting Willow's dad Carey take over for a cuddle as they walked through Tribeca.
The mummy and daughter duo have just returned from a working trip to London, as the singer performed at the iTunes festival last week

Liz Hurley is wrong - children shouldn't wear bikinis

Liz Hurley has come under fire this week for bringing out a range of bikinis for children.

The pint-sized pieces are aimed at children aged eight and below and offer the wearer the choice of ‘sweet frill details’, tie sides or leopard print material.

Call me old-fashioned, but why does a child need a bikini? It’s hardly like they need to worry about tan lines – they’re eight-years-old! What’s wrong with a cotton t-shirt, a swimming costume and a slick of sun tan lotion?

Bikinis are cumbersome devices – the straps dig in, the material rides up and down and you’re at risk of doing a Kate Middleton if you attempt anything vaguely sporty. It’s entirely impractical to put a child in clothing that will restrict their movements, as well as upping the dangers of them getting sunburn on their delicate tums.

It’s the adult-like element to the designs which makes my skin crawl

This isn’t about a lack of clothing: children can and should be able to run around beaches as naked as the day they were born. It’s the adult-like element to the designs which makes my skin crawl.

Dressing a child in adult-like fashions not only over-sexualises them, it teaches them the wrong messages about fashion and their bodies. These clothes aren’t practical: they are decorative. And it teaches young girls that this is their poolside role, fuelling their paranoia from an early age. You wouldn’t put your son in tight budgie-smugglers, so why deck your daughter out in a skimpy two-piece?

Liz Hurley – she of the safety pin/knickers on display/serial disobey-er of the ‘legs or cleavage’ rule – is the last person I’d want to dress my child. For a start, she wears so little clothing that I can only imagine her body is allergic to material, in which case she is hardly qualified to cut cloth.

Children don’t need celebrity fashion, they don’t need high heels, they don’t need make-up

There’s so much pressure on children to grow up fast nowadays – do we really need to start foisting adult fashions on them before they can spell their surnames? There’s plenty of time for them to fall off high heels, experiment with skirts that could pass as belts and generally dress like an extra from Band of Gold – that’s what your teen years are for. When you’re eight, all you need to worry about is where your next ice cream is coming from and how to build the best defensive moat for your sandcastle.

Children don’t need celebrity fashion, they don’t need high heels, they don’t need make-up. What they need is to have fun and be able to explore their boundaries without the added pressure of having to worry about what they look like.

There’s plenty of time for that when you start finding your first greys.
